LITERATURE ACTIVITIES

RESCUE JOSH MCGUIRE, SPARROW HAWK RED, AND STRANDED

*Write a story pyramid for any of the three stories.

1st line: one word main character

2nd line: two words that describe the main character

3rd line: three words that describe setting, time or place

4th line: four words that state the problem or goal or wish

5th line: five words describing one event that relates to solving problems

6th line: six words (same as for five)

7th line: seven words (same as for five)

8th line: eight words stating the solution to the problem or the attainment of a goal

Here is an example of a story pyramid for the book, Malu's Wolf by Ruth Craig.

*Pretend you are a journalist and write either a newspaper article or a TV news story about what the main character of one of the stories did and what that character accomplished.

*Write a letter to Josh, Koby, or Ricky and tell them why you think they are heroes.

*Compare and contrast the heroic efforts made by Josh in Rescue Josh McGuire and Toby in Stranded.

*Write a review of any of the books persuading other people to read the book.

*Describe in as much detail as possible, what the streets, buildings and people in Mexico looked like in you mind after reading Sparrow Hawk Red. Draw a picture of your description.

*Write a letter to the Game and Fish Department persuading them to find a safe place for Pokey (Rescue Josh McGuire) to live instead of letting Pokey be destroyed.

*Pretend you will write a sequel for any of the three books: Rescue Josh McGuire, Sparrow Hawk Red or Stranded.

2. Summarize the plot in five sentences or less.
3. What will the conclusion be?
4. On a separate sheet of paper, design a book cover for this sequel.
